What’s new in Easy Software Deployment Version 5.2?
The new version 5.2 from Easy Software Deployment is all about having more control. Not only having more control of the modification and offering of the applications, as well as having more control of the user and workspace environment.
There are new options like live editing the (virtual) application configuration such as registry settings, ini files and environmental variables, which allows for on the fly configuration.
In addition, the Launch Control option has been expanded with better App-V 5 integration upon the aforementioned topics.
There’s also a new progress interface which allows for better feedback to the user regarding the installs that take place when starting the system.
It’s also possible in this newest version of Easy Software Deployment to deploy software to machines who are not connected to the network but do have an internet connection by providing specific software on a self-specified webserver.
So, if you’d like to have more control, choose Easy Software Deployment 5.2.
Even more control, even easier deployment.
SERVICE PROGRESS FOR AGENT
The ESD Agent now displays a progress window after user login when installation items are installed at system startup. Ensuring better end-user experience by displaying what installation item is currently being installed or removed, including a progress bar showing the progress for the number of other installations that are handled.
CHECK AND REPAIR FOR CORRUPT INSTALLATION LIST
Every time an installation list is opened using the ESD Manager, a check is performed for duplicate installation and computer Item entries, therefore ensuring the installation list is handled correctly for all running ESD Agents.
IMPROVED READING REPORTS
Reading reports from the report share can take a while when a large number of reports are available. To make it easier to read these reports, they are copied to the local computer before analyzing the report files. This will significantly improve the reading reports performance.
IMPROVED PUSH INSTALLATION
Pushing an installation using the ESD Manager used to display a detailed log by default, showing step by step information about the connection, command lines and exit result being executed. This produced a large detailed step by step log that could take a while to analyze the result. In this new version, the window has a default overview regarding the computers and the command lines being executed on those machines, with the resulting return codes showing a default simplified result log. The detailed step by step log view will still be available for troubleshooting when something goes wrong.
SET INSTALLATION SEQUENCE FUNCTION
By default, the first installation item added is handled first for every running Agent. In some situations it can occur that a later added installation item needs to be handled before an earlier, already existing installation item is being handled. For example, when an important Windows Update needs to be installed before an already existing installation can be installed. It is now possible to change the installation item sequence for all existing installation items using the ESD Manager, ensuring important installation items are handled first by the ESD Agent.
INI WRITE AND INI DELETE (LAUNCH) CONTROL SCRIPT
The existing (Launch) Control Script items like removing or writing registry information or copying files or folders, are extended by the possibility to write and delete INI information. You can now create and configure INI-files real time for all (virtual) applications without copying or completely overwriting the INI-file, ensuring real time configuration for all (virtual) applications.
OFFLINE INSTALLING AND REMOVING INSTALLATION ITEMS (CLOUD)
It is now possible to install and remove applications when the ESD Agent is not connected to the corporate network (offline). When an internet connection is available, specified installation items can be uploaded to a website and downloaded by the ESD Agent. This ensures that important applications can still be installed whether or not the computer is connected to the company network.
(LAUNCH) CONTROL SCRIPT APP-V 5 INTEGRATION
It is now possible to perform a scripted control action within the App-V 5 application virtual environment. This ensures that App-V 5 applications can be configured for each individual end-user using the App-V application. Configurations can be changed any time, without redeploying the application.
IMPROVED REMOTE CONNECTION (NOT RESPONDING WINDOWS MESSAGE)
Using the ESD Manager to perform a remote action through slow network connections, sometimes resulted in a temporary “The application is not responding” message. Some connection functions are now handled by other threads, ensuring the aforementioned message won’t occur that soon.
COMMAND TIMEOUT FUNCTION
If an executed command line does not finish within a specified time period, it is now possible to set a time out for the started program to be stopped (killed). This ensures that a non-responsive program will be stopped after a specified time period and the ESD Agent can continue doing its job.
CONTROL SCRIPT (LAUNCH CONTROL FOR ESD AGENT)
Script Control Actions can now also be handled by the ESD Agent when the application list is checked. This ensures that (virtual) application configuration changes are performed every time the application list is deployed.
OPENED INSTALLATION LIST BY USERNAME
By default, an installation list can only be edited by one person at the time. If an installation list is already opened by another person, the ESD Manager will now display the username that has the installation list currently opened.
ADD AND REMOVE ENVIRONMENT VARIABLE (LAUNCH) CONTROL SCRIPT
The existing (Launch) Control Script items like removing or writing registry information or copying files or folders, are extended using add and remove environment variables.
GERMAN LANGUAGE FOR THE AGENT
The ESD Agent will now display German language for German operating systems. Ensuring better end-user experience for our German friends.

Why Easy Software Deployment Version 5.2 is so much better than all the other software deployment tools.
There are several software deployment tools available, but in our opinion, they all lack many options. None of them is complete. So we built our own software deployment tool: Easy Software Deployment. It’s the best, easiest, cheapest and most complete software deployment tool out there. And version 5.2 offers even more control, even easier deployment. Developed for and by application specialists.
In case you’d like to learn exactly how Easy Software Deployment compares to other software deployment tools like Altiris, Active Directory, SCCM and PDQ Deploy, please click below on the specific software for an extensive comparison. For a quick overview, have a look at our Comparison Matrix and for the full recap, check out the Comparison Summary.
As an alternative to Microsoft’s SCCM, companies might use Symantec’s Altiris for software deployment. However, both tools are quite limited compared to Easy Software Deployment. So why settle for less when you can have so much more? Read more on why Easy Software Deployment is so much better than Altiris.
In order to deploy their software, some companies use Active Directory combined with Group Policy Objects (GPO). Mostly because Active Directory and GPO are already functioning within the company network; there’s no need to install any new and difficult software. However, what if there is a software out there that would make software deployment SO MUCH easier than Active Directory? Yes there is; Easy Software Deployment! Read plenty of reasons why Easy Software Deployment is better than Active Directory.
The last couple of years, more and more companies decided to choose Microsoft’s SCCM for their software deployment. One of the main reasons is that it’s the only tool on the market that lets you deploy software on an enterprise level. At least, before there was Easy Software Deployment… Implementing and working with SCCM is a very complex and time-consuming task. Discover here why Easy Software Deployment is so much better than SCCM.
PDQ Deploy from PDQ (formerly known as Admin Arsenal) is used by companies to offer software from one central point to Microsoft Windows computers, without using an agent. When it comes to software deployment, PDQ Deploy operates quite similar to Symantec Altiris and Microsoft SCCM. However, its possibilities are very limited, compared to Easy Software Deployment. Here you’ll read why Easy Software Deployment is better than PDQ Deploy.
